A story of one girl’s obsession with books, movies and TV shows

Gilmore Girls season two: notes in progress 9 November

OMG, that’s Milo Ventimiglia in there, playing a bad boy! So cute :) And I thought I caught a glimpse of Masi Oka (Hiro from Heroes) when Rory visited Harvard. Had to check it on imdb – he used to be much thinner.

UPD: Jeez, the deceased Desperate Housewife (Brenda Strong) was there too.

UPD2: the crazy Mia from Californication is there, looking so innocent and helpless.

UPD3: Rory’s father new girl Sherry is Mädchen Amick who had a perfect b*tchy presence on Gossip Girl (playing a gold digger wife) and Californication.

Sword of Truth by Terry Goodkind book review (sort of) 3 November

Legend of the Seeker

It’s been a long, long time since I’ve read the last book (at the moment) in Sword of Truth (SoT) series. It was the 7th or even 8th, I think.

My feelings about the book were mixed. I loved me some fantasy back then. And it appeared to push all the right buttons. Behold:

  1. Cute guy living in a forest who is destined to get the sword out of the stone and become a king for great things — check.
  2. A seemingly harmless old man who is a mighty wizard in disguise — check.
  3. A magic sword that is meant only for one person (guess who?) — check.
  4. A pure evil that is a major peril to the kittens, dolphins and vicunas along with democracy and human rights all living things — check.
  5. A pretty girl whose fate is intertwined with our hero’s and a miserable fate it is — check.
  6. Dragons — what, only #6? How could I forget the dragons? — check.
  7. Many other traditional things such as witches, trip to the underworld, evil kings and queens (or duchesses, I don’t remember exactly), curses, other magical artifacts, etc. — check.

Gilmore Girls season one: notes in progress 3 November

Gilmore Girls caught my attention because I kept seeing references to it in various blogs.

House M.D. s5: House, where art thou? 30 October

House M.D. s5

Well, I might go to a special hell for saying this but my love affair with Dr. Gregory House is finally over. How could he stoop so low? I forgave him (and writers) for parting ways with Cameron and sweet Dr. Chase. I turned a blind eye to his new crew of losers and even to 13. I put up with two cases of leprosy on one show. And I actually liked Amber because Amber was the only person with guts in several seasons. And they killed her off.

I twisted my mind so that I wouldn’t look at the progress bar of video player window because the succession of events is always the same:

  1. Some person(s): perfectly normal.
  2. Some person(s): almost dying.
  3. Opening credits.
  4. House: trying to avoid the case.
  5. House: hearing smth interesting and picking up the case.
  6. Wrong diagnosis. Patient(s) go(es) worse.
  7. Wrong diagnosis: apply/rinse/repeat. Patient(s) go(es) worse.
  8. The last wrong diagnosis before the final revelation. Patient(s): dying.
  9. The ‘lastest’ wrong diagnosis before the final revelation. Patient(s): dying.
  10. Patient(s): being treated to death for the ‘lastest’ diagnosis because the diagnosis is, well, wrong.
  11. House: talking to somebody devoid of any charisma and significance (everybody is that way on the show these days).
  12. House: finally having a revelation. Patient(s): dead almost dead.
  13. House: saving the day.

Heroes s3: kill the cheerleader, save the world 29 October

h-promo-s3-01

Remember how it all started? A brand new show with super powers, mystery, twists and plots; a cute blond cheerleader set on dying and videotaping it over and over again, a flying politician, a young mother with multiple personality disorder (who used to be so badass in her ‘unwhiny’ mode)… A crazy maniac killing people with abilities one by one hunting them down; premonitions, dreams, clues and hints, ever increasing sense of urgency…

Despite of or maybe due to all the familiar and recognizable stuff, all the comics and popular culture references it was good. The ever twisting storylines, the secrets untold (seriously, wasn’t Mama Petrelli the most crazy cold-blooded b*tch already and yet we knew nothing of her past at the moment), it was good. It felt like home.
